Case Study One
adapted from Learning from Experience, "Developing Portraits of Practice"

Review the Case Study Background and Players, then in Act 1-3, make decisions based on the information provided.

Background

Learning for Life College is an organization that offers educational programs to ABC Community. Learning for Life is considering the integration of eportfolios as part of their student assessment. They see eportfolios as having a three fold purpose: a formative, a summative, and a marketing purpose. The theory is that in the formative phase of an eportfolio, the student would use the portfolio to demonstrate progress in their course. In the summative phase, the student uses the portfolio to assess their program and outcomes institutionally. The marketing phase is accessed when the student uses the eportfolio to demonstrate to prospective employers that they have achieved a certain level of competency.

You are the Project Manager, in the Faculty Learning Community. You have been with Learning for Life College for ten years. Your role has become increasingly important over the years because you have been challenged with being innovative and responsive to the changes in technology and the impact to your school. Your major responsibility is to complete a task force, conduct a collaborative analysis, and make appropriate recommendations on technology and learning for your college.

Players

Here is your task force group:
  • Kenneth Smart: Faculty of Business Studies
  • Suzanne Bright: Manager, Information Technology
  • John Light: Faculty, Division of Library Resources
  • Martha Stewart: Faculty of Distributed Learning
